Send your first task
Tasks start in a workspace. Go to Home, pick a workspace, and use the box that says “Describe a task or ask anything”. That box is the composer.
Write and send it
- Pick what you want to make (optional). Make and Build buttons sit under the workspace’s name, above the composer. Make is for documents (slides, document, spreadsheet, chart) and media such as images and diagrams. Build is for an app, dashboard, website, agent or schedule. Picking one tells the agent what kind of result you want.
- Write the brief. Say what you want, who it is for, and how you will judge it. For example: “Write a one-page summary of the attached customer survey for the Juniper Outdoor Co. leadership team. Use five bullet points and finish with one recommendation.”
- Attach what it needs. Click + and choose Attach files, Drive or Recent tasks. You can also paste a file or a Drive link into the composer, or type @ to mention a file by name. The agent can only use files you attach, mention or give it access to.
- Choose the agent. Click the agent chip and pick one. If you are not sure, use your own assistant.
- Leave the model on Auto. The model chip offers Auto, Smart, Balanced and Cheap. Auto chooses for you and is usually right.
- Press Enter. The task opens and the agent starts work. In the task, the composer says “Message your agent…”.
A short first task, such as a one-page summary of a file you already have, takes a couple of minutes and lets you see every part of the process. If you can’t think of one, open the arrow next to New Task and choose Create a presentation or Build an app for a starting point you can edit.
A one-line brief like “Make a deck about Q3” gets you a generic deck. Name the reader, the length and the source files.
The other composer buttons
- + > Plan mode: the agent writes a plan and checks it with you before it acts. Use it for long jobs, so you can correct the direction early.
- + > Goal mode: the agent keeps working until it reaches a goal you set.
- + > Automations: send the task later, or repeat it on a schedule.
- Attach skills (the scroll): add your team’s written instructions to this task.
- Connectors: choose which connected apps this task may use.
- Work in a project: file the task in a project.
- Temporary chat: a quick task that is not saved. It asks you to confirm first.
- Mic: click it to talk instead of typing, or hold Right Option (Right Ctrl if you are not on a Mac).
- The small number shows the estimated credit cost, and the ring beside the model chip shows how full the agent’s memory is for this task.
